On Sept.18- 03 my wife Dolores 69 yrs.old. Was at cc for mitral valve replacement (using a cow valve) 2 bypasses and the Cox maze. her surgeon was dr. McCarthy. it is now six months latter and she is doing every thing. prior to her surgery she couldn’t walk 100 feet with out stopping to rest and catch her breath. she has been feeling great for the last three months the only problems she has had through out
the whole process is the second day in icu she went in to a fib and her heart rate got to 180.
they gave her a shot to bring down the rate and it did. be for they could give her any thing for the afib, she self converted on her own to nsr, and has been in nsr ever sence.the next day they put her on amiodrone for six months just in case. she came off the amio six days ago and so far still in nsr.the only problem at present is she is still most conformable sleeping on her back. she hurts if she
stays on either side very long. When we first got to cc.the day be for the surgary.they did an angiogram an discovered that she needed two bypasses
those who did the angiogram said they doubted that dr. McCarthy would be able to do the maze be cause of the time it would take on (the heart long machine)
but as you can see this skilled dr. did it all.
in passing we are from California, and i stayed at the guesthouse, the room was fine and the price
was wright. even the flight home was not a big discomfort to my wife. i could go on and on about the whole remarkable expearanse, but it's getting late I’m getting old and it's past my bed time. if any one wants more detail on any thing, feel free to e-mail me or post.I do want to wish dr.McCarthy
the very best in Chicago and to thank the lord for his guidense, and for the people of the maze alumni for their prayers.
.
Jim
