This is a little different procedure from our regular cures of atrial fibrillation, but it is still a form of atrial fibrillation and the cure.

I took a good friend of mine to the hospital last Thur. for an ablation for WPW, (Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome).

The ablation was done at the OSF St.Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois where I live. The electrophysiologist that did the ablation was Dr. Bauernfeind, my old cardiologist that released me in 2000 after my maze. He remembered me, and the medication I was on just before my maze procedure, which he recommended in 1998.

They spent about 2 hours in a EP study before attempting to ablate the wpw pathway. They ablated the pathway and waited almost a hour to see if the pathway started working any more. Then they removed all the catheters, and said that everything would be fine.

They started getting him ready about 6:30 AM and the entire procedure took about 5-6 hours, plus time in the recovery, and got to his room about 4 pm. He spent one night in the hospital, and came home Fri. morning.

He was at church today, feeling a little tired, but good, and took his place in the choir.

The doctor said that he is sure that the wpw pathway was eliminated, and he should not have any more AF from it.
