Group,

After much research and soul searching I am moving ahead with scheduling my surgery. A recent cath
has shown that a life long mitral valve prolapse has gotten worse. The cath also showed a 70%
blockage on the front artery with the others clear. My doc has advised that we address the valve
problem now while the valve is repairable and take care of the artery and a-fib at the same time.

I am meeting with the surgeon this Friday and if I am comfortable with what I hear the surgery will be
scheduled sometime in the following two weeks. I will be introducting a new surgeon and facility to
the board. The Surgeon is Dr. Harry Burton of Asheville Thoraic / Cardiovascular Surgeons and the
facility is the Owens Heart Center at Mission St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville, NC. Dr. Burton has
preformed over 50 MAZE procedures in conjunction with mitral valve repair / replacement. I have
been told that all of the surgeons in Dr. Burton's practice are certified in the MAZE procedure.

Any information that you veterans of the procedure could provide regarding questions I should
ask the surgeon would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave Funderburg
