Glenn -- I've had the direct opposite experience. Amiodarone can be a difficult med if not monitored rountinely but nothing comes close to it for maintaining NSR. In my case the Toprol XL was the culprit. I never felt so bad with any medication I had ever taken for AF --and I think I have taken all of them. Everybody is different and all AF medications have varying degrees of side effects. It took about 2 months before the Toprol was completely out of my system. When taking it, I experienced shortness of breath, wheezing, difficultly with even the most routine excercise. What I'm saying is don't be too quick to blame the amiodarone for your discomfort. It could be the combination of the other meds in your system interacting with the amiodarone.
