John,
What a story of your life! I identify with several things with you. Especially that, most of us probably have other things with our health, that gets complicated with AF. This makes it important that all referances, or anecdotes from each of us here, should be filtered with care. We are experienced, and sometimes educated about AF, but the bottom line, HAS to be filtered through each persons situations.

When I was cardioverted from Ventricular Flutter during an ablation, I had a "stick on" electricle plate placed on my back before starting the procedure (didn't even know it)and when they had to cardiovert, they just placed the other paddle on my front....and BAM!

The comment from Dr.H.about AF being a birth defect hits home, because I have two siblings, and a parent, who have AF also. They didn't become symptomatic as soon as I did as a teenager, but in their 60's. We must have inherited it.

Before I found CC, I emailed the Bordeaux hospital where Dr. Jais and Dr.H work. I recieved immediate and personal response, as you did. I wish that the American hospitals would do the same thing THEY do...keep you in the hospital for a week, so if there is a missed area that didn't get ablated the first time, or a leak through because it didn't get burned deep enough, they could do a touch up right away; like you had! It would be a lot cheaper for insurance, but as I recall, Dr.Jais said a second touch up, was done at no additional cost.

I've read that a leaky gut is difficult to heal. Are you better? My best friend is a recently retired Pfizer CEO, and he says that doctors don't treat yeast and fungus infections, like you had, correctly most of the time. He has a lot of faith in Diflucan as a good med for this.

I also take synthroid for hypothyroid, and was interested in your symptoms of cramp. I will cramp in my left calf consistantly....everytime if I stretch that leg when in bed. It's a rude way to wake up :-)

Panic attacks at Costco??? Try Sams Club or Walmart too! About four months after my last ablation (the curing one)I began having panic attacks. Now, I was already taking anti-depressants routinely, but my husband began having serious health problems, and I myself was continuing to have other things too. Gnawing stress is insidious!! I had three bad attacks.....ALL while in Sam's Club warehouse stores. My GP said it's the environment of concrete floors, flourescent lights, and those annoying overhead loud speakers, that kicks peoples stress level up several notches.

I admire your wife. She sounds like a great gal. I too have to take charge often with my husbands health because "MEN" just don't deal well with the medical beaurocracy.

Great post!
Sarah
