Ablation is NOT very, non-invasive.........

........as far as I'm concerned! It just "sounds" less scary. My husband had kidney cancer surgery last winter. They did it "arthroscopically" through six, ~2 1/2inch holes punched in his sides, using tools that were about two feet long. He was the fifth person to have had this type of cryo/freezing a kidney cancer, and leaving the kidney intact.(wasn't informed of that untill 10minutes before rolling him into the OR!)

While freezing the thing, then thawing it out, and re-freezing it again, they have to hold back all the other organs...with their hand tools....so that THEY won't accidently touch the frozen cancer popsicle, thereby destroying something important...like his liver or something!

He was kept overnight, and sent home.....a 4 1/2hr drive over rough Arkansas roads, which turned out to be the trip from hell!! He was in SO much pain!! I had to stop at a rest stop to help to the mens room...he shook so bad with pain, and I couldn't go in with him.

Any way....I can't believe this "non-invasive" approach was any easier!!! It couldn't have been worse, as far as i'm concerned, and I won't ever let him have something like that done again. He was so swollen, bruised, and literally "beaten up", when he could have just had a nice clean scar with open surgery, and not the danger of freezing his other important parts.

The above dia-tribe (sorry) has colored my feelings somewhat about the so called "non-invasive" proceedures, like my PVI ablation.

There, I feel better :-)
S.
