Carolyn, just a comment or two here. Jack mentioned amiodarone which I was on for quite a period of time and it worked very well for me. I actually ran a 100 mile race with it and it kept me in rhythm. Having said this, I would get rid of this AFib as quickly as possible. Go to a good heart hospital for further investigation of options. As John or Jack suggested, Cleveland Clinic or Texas Heart Institue are good but there are many others. I live on the West Coast but flew to Cleveland as they are certainly one of the best. It was a little money but, hey, it's my life. I had my maze three years ago and now take no medications. I run, backpack, play tennis whatever and I'm (or will be in one month) 60. Like everyone else has said, avoid the AV Node Ablation. Bottom line. Get another good opinion.
