I was diagnosed with lone chronic afib in March and after trying a couple of drugs unsucessfully (Tambocor & Rhythmol) I decided to have the maze. As those of you who follow this board know I spent some time deciding where to go for the procedure and got down to two contenders Ohio State U Medical Center, and the Cleveland Clinic.
In the end I contacted Dr Cox and he said QUOTE In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with either surgeon or with either place. Both Dr. Brown and Dr. McCarthy are excellent surgeons and both perform the Maze procedure exceedingly well. The followup with the patients after being discharged from the hospital is clearly better at Ohio State. END QUOTE.
Having contacted both institutions I finally decided to buck the trend among subscribers here and go with Dr David Brown at the OSUMC.
This board has been a tremendous comfort to me and my wife as well as a great information resource. I will keep you posted on my progress as things move forward.
