D O N'T let them ablate the AV node and keep Pat on coumadin the rest of his life.
Ablating the AV node doesn't stop anything but the symptoms that he feels. It does nothing about the blood clot threat, The pace maker just keeps the ventricle beating to the signal of the pacer, and the atria is still in atrial fibrillation.
The Maze, or maybe a Pulmonary Vein Ablation will stop the atrial from fibrillating and give Pat a chance to have a normal beating heart and off all the medications.
