I have just finished reading a remarkable book about the Cleveland Clinic. It is not concerned with the Maze procedure but rather with Pediatric Surgery and Surgery upon Newborns.

It is called:
"Walk On Water - Inside an Elite Pediatric Surgical Unit" by Michael Ruhlman. 2003.

It follows the daily activities of Dr Roger Mee, a New Zealand-born surgeon who is regarded as one of the five best pediatric surgeons in the world. He is the Chairman of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

This man does over 500 corrective surgeries a year on babies whose heart is the size of a plum. He joins new arteries into the main aorta when the main aorta is only 3 millimeters in diameter using a perfectly circular stitching.

The book is well written and exciting. It describes being in the O.R. as a baby born with only one ventricle and a collapsed atrium is made healthy.

The man is incredible.

Henry
