My aunt has had afib very infrequently for many years. Recently, it started occurring every 3-4 days and would last most of the day. Her doctor put her on Flecainide and a beta blocker. She now has no energy and is miserable. I recommendeded to her that she consider a Maze or PVI at CC. So..., she asks her cardiologist in Charleston, SC, about this and guess what? He told her she wasn't a candidate for one of these cures! I will talk to her tomorrow to learn the details and try to make sure she has good info on which to make a decision. It's unconscionable that so many cardiologists are ignorant of the good results being obtained at the best heart centers with respect to curing afib - or do they know and don't find it in their best interests to tell their patients?
