Hi Henry-
Your next to the last paragraph in your 1-12-04 post is quite profound and is a tell-it-like-it-is eye opener for anyone who is not familiar with the functions of a cardiologist and heart a surgeon---and especially a MAZE surgeon. I want to repeat your paragraph below so that it might attract more attention to folks not knowing the difference between cardiologists and surgeons and are seeking a cure for A-fib.

I had two different cardiologists while having my very severe A-fib attacks (before mitral valve/MAZE surgery). Neither of the cardiologists recommended surgery. And even a heart surgeon I interviewed never mentioned the MAZE procedure.

I learned that there was a difference only by accident while reviewing another site. Somehow, Carl Plaskett "found me" and then contacted me, and then directed me to this very special MAZE forum.

Here is the repeat of a section of Henry Alken's very important 1-12-04 post:

"A big problem with this Afib stuff is the fact that you go to a Cardiologist when you first have heart symptoms - it is the natural thing to do. But cardiology is not a surgical specialty - they are not allowed to operate upon you. The result is they will not refer 'business' to the surgeons and will only discuss non-surgical solutions to the Afib problem. In reality, in my opinion, the surgical solution is the safest and the most effective but it is rare for a cardiologist to acquaint his patient with that information. None of the 6 cardios I went to ever did."

Thank you, Henry.
