As Steve brought up down below with his five year anniversary, many of us are now heart healthy for periods of time that reflect the continuing success of Dr. Cox's surgery. Both Carl and I are now arriving at three years and there was no more fun in my life than to see Carl's face when he walked into the CC Guesthouse to find me after surgery sitting there bright eyed and bushy tailed. Carl was so excited that I thought he was going to race across the street right into surgery at that point.

Dr. McCarthy did a wonderful job and I thank him for his compassion and accessibility. I turn 60 shortly but still run (LA Marathon in March), hike and play some tennis. I take no drugs nor have I since shortly after surgery. My only comment is similar to one made by Hans in his January 8th post about exercise. Since AFib and surgery, I haven't been able to regain running speed. I seem to be stuck at a level below that which I think I should be able to do. There is no question that I'm older so that's a factor and that mentally I'm not as tough but still, I wonder if there is something else holding me back. But, I don't have the answer for that so I just enjoy doing what I am doing. My best to all of you. I've had three good friends diagnosed with Afib in the last three months so the pursuit of information continues.
