The maze can still put back into coordinated atrial-ventricular contraction, but as far as I know, there is no way to restore your AV node. You would still need a pacemaker, and it would need to be an AV sequential. Pacemakers have become quite sophisticated and can reasonably closely parallel normal SA heart function. There is a possibility that a pacer can be keyed to to your sinus node (sense the atrial contraction, and fire the ventricles after the appropriate delay, allowing your SA node to set your heart rate. You should discuss the options with your cardiologist, or directly with the surgeon whom you are planning to have do the surgery.
