Glenn, concerning 2 of your recent posts:
(1) I was 73 years old, two years ago when I had my Maze. I'm in
pretty good shape and had "Lone Afib", and did well on the
recovery and have been in good health with NSR since the surgery.
(2) Prior to my Maze, I called LDS hospital in Salt Lake City (where
Dr Millar did my Maze), and asked them for the "procedure
number" for the Maze. I then called Medicare, and my
supplemantal insurance carrier and asked them if they covered
this procedure number. They said they did, so I had the Maze,
which was billed at about $55,000. Medicare allowed about
$35,000, which was accepted by both LDS Hospital (they accept
Medicare Assignment) and by my supplemental carrier. I never
paid a dime myself.
Dr. Millar at LDS is one of the best around for the Maze. He had
done over 200 of them 2 years ago when he did mine. I
recommended in my previous reply to your first post that you go
to CC, because you seemed to have other issues, for which
ablation might be called for instead of the Maze. CC can run your
case by their experts reviewing all the "cures" available for the
Maze, and thus give you more individual information and options
for your case than most other facilities doing Afib work. May the
New Year bring you health and NSR! Don
