Cryoablation has been used in some forms for years. It has evolved several times with new developments, the same as other heating processes.
A few doctors are trying open chest modified Maze procedure using Cryoablating processes to form the scar tissue on beating hearts instead of stopping the heart using the usual regular procedure.
Some doctors are also using microwave energy to form the lesions.
As it stated at the bottom of the article that the U.S. approval of the Arctic Circler device should come in 2005. This device will probably be used to do Pulmonary Vein Ablations. Some places use Cryoablating tools now to do the PVA's, but probably with a older type tool.
Many facilities and doctors are trying new improvements to stop different arrhythmias problems. This can only mean better treatments, (regardless which proves to be the best), for all the people who still suffer from atrial fibrillation.
