Rob,
My dad had a mitral valve repair and maze done at the Cleveland Clinic in March of this year. He came out of surgery in sinus rythm but quickly went back into afib. They cardioverted him 2 days later and once again he went back into afib. He was cardioverted once again 5 or 6 weeks post maze/valve repair by his local cardiologist and has been in sinus ever since. I think he will finally get off of coumadin today! We were reassured that it can take some time for the heart to heal from the maze. My family's experience was that we expected everything to be perfect right after the surgery and were so upset when dad had a few setbacks. We learned that this is normal and by about 6 weeks after the surgery everything was starting to look better and dad was feeling better. I hope this can reassure you a little.
