Well I am going in on Wednesday for a pre-op appt for the usual stuff and then Thursday for a mitral valve repair/replacement and also a Maze procedure. I have found this website quite helpful and am also reading through my "What you need to know about your heart surgery" booklet from the hospital.
I am feeling really good about this operation and have yet to really feel any fear, since I am looking at this as my "mid life blessing". I only found out that I had Atrial Fib in December and knew then I had a really bad mitral valve for the last 10 years due to a bout with endo carditus. During the last 10 years I also came to believe that I was not going to live to be very old, and would one day need a valve anyway. I was really slowing down(like any good A-Fibber), but not knowing why until the recent few months. It really snuck up on me! Being 45 I am really appreciating the chance to have a functional heart and a clean bill of health. I am also excited about the down-time and really getting in touch with my life purposes and passions. I have done a lot of personal study in the last 3 months since being diagnosed and found that I am on the right track and 2 months off work with full pay may just be what the doctor ordered.
Thank you all for you earlier comments and answers to question. I would appreciate your prayers and comments at this time also.Thank you,
Steve
