It's been a while since I have posted. But as Popeye said: "I've had all I can stands and can't stands no more," I compiled a nice pile of medical records outlining an 18 year history of a-fib, 8 different failed meds, 5 cardioversions and an ablation and sent them via Fed X to the Cleveland Clinic on 3/11 - On 3/14 I received an e-mail from the CC saying Dr. Gillinov had reviewed my records (!!!) and said I was an excellent candidate for the Maze. He said I would be in the 95 percentile "success" range. Gotta like those odds.
So over the next month I'm going to get my left-heart cath and surface echo done, and with films and reports in hand, I'm making the trek back to Cleveland, for the consult with Dr. Gillinov and an EP doc - which is their standard procedure.
I've talked to 3 cardiologists (one an EP specialist and one cardio-thoracic surgeon) who agree that the Maze is probably best for a chronic case such as me. But what is so cool is my regular doc is my biggest cheerleader in this endeavor - she is supporting and helping me way above and beyond the call of duty.
Nervous? Not even - this borders on ecstatic. (I talk big now....!!!)
My dealings with the CC have confirmed what all have said on this board - they are the best and I am ultra-impressed with their patient service and genuine concern - and I have not even visited yet! Long time a-fib sufferers, talk to anyone on this board...we have a lot to share!
I will keep checking in!
