Jim:

I can only echo much of what Carl has already said. I had my MAZE in August of 2000. Although I was nervous on some level...I was more afraid of lving w/a-fib for the rest of my life. I saw the surgery as my only way out. Unlike Carl, I cannot recall the exact timetable/milestones of events. I don't think that I progrssed as quickly as he did in the first few weeks. For one thing, I was discharged 12 days post-op (vs. 5-6 for most). I can tell you that I FULLY loaded my truck and set up for a flea market in mid-October....so the progress came quickly once it started. My advice would to be think 'past' the event and focus on NSR. For me there were only a couple of days post-op that were somewhat uncomfortable...and they quickly become a fleeting memory!

Good luck to you...
