Well, I'm still in the hospital but things are looking up. Yesterday the cardiac surgeon, the pulmonologist and Dr. McCarthy all talked by phone and agreed to treat me optimistically. Dr. McCarthy told me that only about 1% of patients have as much trouble with post-pericardiomety fluid as me. They have decided to get me off heprin and onto coumadin so I can go home. I will go back for another chest XRay next Monday and if the fluid is STILL increasing, the cardiac surgeon here said he is comfortable with doing a SMALL chest tube to drain it while I'm on coumadin. Hooray!! I'll at least be able be at home in the meantime! I'll post again after next Monday and let you all know the results of that XRay.
