Sarah -

I had my ablation 3 weeks ago today. I'm doing GREAT!! Had my procedure on a Thurs. and Sat afternoon took the bus to downtown. I was tired for about a week after the surgery but never felt bad, just tired. My energy came back quickly and I never had any pain. The only thing that bothered me at all was that I had some shortness of breath now and then for over 2 weeks and the info they gave me at discharge said that should only last for 48 hours. It's much better now, though, so I'm not as worried. Am back to riding my horses (or would if the rain would stop here) - with care, of course, because of the coumadin (the worst part of post-op, in my opinion). I've have 2 bouts of arrythmia. They lasted less than a minute each so I don't really know what kind they were. I've spent the last 3 days eating everything I haven't touched for the last 6 years. Amazing! When the rain stops, I plan to garden until I'm exhausted, which I also haven't done in 6 years (and my yard reflects this).

Everyone's situation is unique and I can only speak for myself, but I am so thrilled that my doctor here recommended this and didn't wait until I was older, chronic, had additional problems, etc. For me, I definitely did the right thing at the right time. I know it will be another month or two before I know the final outcome, but I really feel that I got it on the first try. I am still thrilled - I knew that the threat of fibrillating was always with me, but am really suprised at how wonderful it is to be free of that worry. I'm not quite used to it yet, but am so happy. I wasn't chronic yet but still feel truly as if I've gotten my life back. My friends have learned not to ask how I'm doing - they get the full "happy, wonderful, etc" every time. If my insurance will just pay what they're supposed to (which they are now balking at doing) I want a trip out of the country!

Good luck to all who are thinking about doing this. As Mike Ware saud, for me it really was a "piece of cake.
