I know this will probably not work for those that have surgery at the cc, because of the distance. But ask the doctors at the cc if they can refer you to someone in your home area. After reading several posts of Mazers who did have problems I ask Dr Barnes folks in Boise to recommend a Cardiologist in Pocatello Idaho who had refered patients to him and had then worked with mazers. He recommended a Dr Call in Pocatello and he has been great. Did not just look at the heart, but at my whole being.
My original Cardiologist in Logan, Utah with whom I had an appointment for Oct 11, called several days before to remind me of the appointment. Did not leave a message on the answering machine, just had his call on caller ID. I had forgot the appointment and had to call to see what they wanted. Took the person that answered the phone a few minutes to figure out why they had called. This doctor did not encourage doing the maze and in fact said "you don't want that". I assure that after they got my report from Dr. Barnes they were not interested in seeing me again.
A short additiong. Logan, Utah is 30 miles to the south and Pocatello, Idaho is 60 miles to the north so we folks here in Preston, Idaho are sent to Logan unless we request otherwise.
A second point even cardiologists in the same group can and do have differing opinions of the maze. The cardiologist that did the angiogram in Boise has worked with Dr Barnes, but another Cardiologist in his group scared one lady to death abouth having the Maze. I have talked to her, but have not heard if she followed through or not. She was going to get a second opinion from the Cardiologist that I worked with.
Good luck with your procedure It sounds like the back surgery went well even if your Dr. at home was a clod.Dave
