Pam, I didn't know that pericarditis might be a problem with an ablation. With a Maze, I would expect it to be more of an issue. Pericarditis can be caused by many things including reactions to medication, and viruses or bacteria introduced during the heart procedure. I would think they would have to do an echo to truly diagnose it if the xrays didn't. If it is a bacterial infection, I would think antibiotics would be needed. I am puzzled by all this. The main thing is that you seem to have recovered from whatever it was. Perhaps others on the Board can provide better answers concerning what might have happened.

I was told to get a CT scan 2-3 weeks at home after my PVI to check for stenosis. I was also given an EKG device with telephone modem to use to send EKGs to CC whenever I thought I was in afib. I was put on Coumadin and Zocor after the PVI. I know some others (e.g., Allie) who were not told to get a CT scan nor given Zocor or Lipitor. [Allie, did you ask CC about this after we talked about it last month?]

Pam, did they tell you to continue your anti-arrhymthia medication after your PVI? Also, were you concious during the procedure?

It's great that you aren't experiencing afib now. That's a good sign! If you could feel afib before, then you should be able to feel it now if it occurs. It is possible to have afib while you sleep that you might be unaware of, but if you don't experience any afib during the day or wake up with it, then I would bet you are okay.
M.
