While my surgery was done at Barnes in St. Louis, and I don't know about your insurance, I suspect my experience is typical. First, there will certainly be a shuttle from the airport that goes to the CC. There is from all airports in cities with major medical centers. Second, there should be hotels in the area that cater to patients, and offer great rates. Check with the hospital. Your insurance should cover lodging ahead of time, and may even cover a few days after. Mine even covered three days in Barnes's hospice setting, and sending my suitcase home (since I obviously couldn't carry it). I doubt that out of a total cost of around $35,000 (1990), I spent even fifty bucks out of pocket.
