Hi,
Thanks for the rapid response everyone. I see that stalwart Jack Drum has already posted:
'Dr. Michael Yi
Cardiac Surgeon at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne'.
I am in Sydney. I went to NY last year and consulted a professor from Cornell who was optimistic and said that they were doing a large scale investigation of AF and she thought the cure was '3years away'. Unfortunately I have been hearing it for 8years. What bugs me is that at the first sign of hesitation the doctors are against surgery. The symptoms are not bothering me much but the life expectancy thing is still there. Does continuous AF shorten your life apart from increasing stroke risk? I know that in Sydney that cardiologists never recommend less than the full scale procedure.
I would like to thank everyone for their responses. I have seen so much hostility on the internet it's warming to feel this humane interest and support.
I don't want to be leaving the family of man prematurely and I guess I'll keep working through it. I suppose although I have a chemically incurable arrhythmia I am lucky not to have the severe symptoms.
best wishes
chris.
