Bill:
I am sure I could have started swimming soon after they said a shower was OK, EXCEPT for the fact that I developed a post-nasal drip after my air flight to and from the CC, and I coughed so much that my chest (sternum) became much sorer than it had been in the week after surgery.
I started swimming when the water in a non-heated outdoor pool was warm enough (about 75), which was about 10-11 weeks, but I would have started perhaps 3-4 weeks earlier had the temperature been higher. Then it got colder here 7-10 days ago and the water temp dropped to 70. Tomorrow I shall get back.
I felt NO discomfort in my chest doing freestyle and a little breaststroke. I am not ready to try butterfly, but only because I never could do it well. I am finding that swimming gives my lungs and heart a good workout without any undue stress on my joints, and is giving me an exercise high, which I have not experienced for some years.
