Dear Gene,

If it is not too late to suggest this, I am just wondering if you have discussed a mitral valve repair with your doctor, as distinct from a replacement? If a valve has enough tissue around it to work with a repair is preferable to a replacement and repair surgery has a 97% success rate. I ask this because six months ago I had a mitral valve repair plus a maze. It took a while for the heart to adjust to the changes but now everything's working fine. So whatever you do, I wish you success.
