I had the Maze almost 2 yrs ago, age 38. I have 3 small children and could not accept my condition. Drugs did not help at all. For the year before my surgery I was in afib probably 80% of the time. No way to live. I couldn't even walk around the block. The afib is not dangerous in itself, but can cause other problems with the heart. I ended up have an enlarged ventrial due to afib. I have been in NSR for 18 months and it is fantastic. No drugs at all. I can once again do what ever I want to without worry. It is a blessing. I had my procedure done at CC and they were very supportive. I did live the hosipital in afib and it took almost 5 months for the procedure to work, Once it took hold though there have been no more problems. I had several procedures done, tried every drug and the only thing that worked is the Maze.
