Jim, I am 4 1/2 years post maze, and started this message board 2 years ago.
I only know of one lady who said the maze made her life worse, but her maze was a experimental type that wasn't done any more. I have heard of one other, but was never in contact with him.
The long term success rate for the maze is probably one of the best of all the surgery procedures going.
You need to gather all the information you can on the maze or any other procedure and make your own informed decision on what you should do about your condition.
There is a lot of information within the ARTICLES AND STUDIES section of this page, and a lot of information from other mazers within this message board.
I can tell you that it was the correct decision for me, and after a lifetime of AF, medication, and side effects, it is wonderful to have a healthy life back. I took medication for my AF from my mid 30's until I was 64, and my quality of life was getting to the zero mark. I had the maze then, and Monday I will be 69 and feel great again.
Best of luck on your search.
