Don: I don't know if there is anything which will actually define the type of arrhythmia, but I'm sure a basic exercise heart rate monitor (belt/transmitter on your chest, receiver/watch on your wrist) will suffice. I discovered my AF via my Polar (brand) exercise monitor, although for a couple of years at least, I was dismissing my AF as a "faulty monitor". I use it now during exercise and to periodically check my HR to see if wine or stress is raising it. You will definitely be able to see when you are in AF, because the display will show widely varying HR and the audible "beep" with not be evenly spaced.
Try any large sports store or on line supplier like performancebike.com or even Ebay after you know what you want.
