Hi Bud,

I had a couple nurses at Mayo tell me the same thing; that having A-Flutter after any heart surgery was not uncommon. One even suggested the incidence was about 40%. That seems high enough that they should say something about its likelihood before they dismiss you from the hospital the first time. Although I'm not sure that would make any difference. I would have still probably ended up at St. Mary's for the Cardio conversion anyway.

I guess if one is to be cardio converted, Mayo is the place to go, because I have no memory of it at all. They prep'd me for a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) prior to the cardioversion. For that procedure I was semi-conscious so I could move or cough as directed. Once that procedure showed no blood clots in the atrium, I was good to go. I was put under completely for the cardioconversion. That and something they gave me immediately after the conversion assured that there would be no memory of it (including the TEE). So, Bud, I can't tell you what cardioversion was like after the MAZE, and I'm doing everything I can to keep from experiencing a conversion again. I realize the next time might not be at Mayo, nor as kind to my memories. So, I hope not to be able to tell you, ever!

I do know what you always told me about sneezing in very true. It's the worst. I'm still very sore in the breastbone area after 4.5 weeks. Is that normal? I'm otherwise feeling pretty good.

Best regards,
Ron
