Roger: In my case, I just suddenly felt "strange". Since it had been 1.5 yrs since I had any afib/aflutter, I knew something wasn't right so I dug out my Polar exercise monitor, and since it had been a long time since I had used it, it was difficult to find (which probably contributed to my anxiety and anger). When I put it on, it showed a pulse of 173, so I lay down for awhile. When I got up, it was still around 130 so I took about 25mg of some old atenolol (prescribed in 2000), and in the AM it was still 120+, so I called my EP, who saw me within a couple of hours, read my ECG and said I was in aflutter. He would have had me converted right away, but couldn't reach my Primary Care Physician (HMO) for a referral to the hospital across the street, because it was lunchtime, so he scheduled the cardioversion for the following morning. I went in at 9 and left at 11, with a HR of 55 lying down, and about 70 or so walking around.

In the first few months post-maze, I had a few times where I felt "something" like a quick "skip",palpitation, or a couple of beats together while I was sitting still, but I had been advised to expect those kind of things, so I never had them checked out. I don't know if they were PVCs, PACs, or what (if anything). They might have been muscle spasms.

This probably isn't definitive enough, but perhaps Steve could weigh in with some clinical info which might answer this question for both of us.

And speaking of Steve, Do you bike, Steve?
