I know my brother-in-law (retired physician) could relate to your surprise found in pre-op testing: a few weeks ago he had a preliminary chest X-ray prior to cataract surgery and they found a spot on a lung. It was cancerous and removed last week. Without those pre-op tests, you might never have discovered something that you can hopefully get corrected quickly.
