Open heart OR?

I live in Australia and I am very close to deciding to have the maze operation with open heart surgery.Is this method outdated and should I be waiting for the minimally invasive method to be available?I would obviously much prefer the new techniques that I read of in the USA but their is no surgeon in Australia doing it.
