I had a quadruple bypass, the Maze procedure and a PFO closure at the CCF 2/27/02 by Dr. McCarthy. Dr Hammer was my EP Doc. This was the full open chest procedure. Many of you know that my recovery was a little rocky but I have never felt discouraged. I think back over the 10 years I battled this problem and was very happy that I set out for a second opinion and found out about the Maze procedure. Even though my Dr says I am crazy for having it done.
I went back into AF two times while at the CC. I had another 6 day run that started at the Cleveland Airport. I was converted March 22 and was NSR till Jun 7th at which time I went into AF for 2 hours and came out on my own. Yesterday 7/10 9:30pm I went into AF and had to be cardioverted today. My EP doc told me again, “ I don’t know about the Maze procedure”. I am still on the 50mg of Toprol XL. I have been feeling much better the past 3 months, getting my strength back, walking a lot and working up on the bike. I am 9 weeks through the cardiac rehab program. It is a great feeling to have a normal heart beat of 68-70.
Amiodarone did not do anything for me. Anyway I feel good again today and pray that the next period will be forever. God Bless.
