My resting heart rate after MAZE was high also and my heart recovery rate was slow after exercise just as you describe. I think the heart is highly agitated after this surgery (wouldn't you be).
It is quite amazing, however, how the heart heals over time. My resting heart rate is now in the 50's and recovery rate is excellent....it took me two years to get here, however. Actually, my heart rate and recovery rate is better than it has ever been. For the last five years (since I first knew I had A-Fib) I have been exercising more with greater frequency....heart problems become a great motivator. I think I am now enjoying the fruit of this consistent regular exercise.
Now, if I can just get some of this fat off the middle...enjoying the good life too much.
