Tim the name of your post (I'm 3 months post maze and doing great) is as it should be and I am sure it will continue to improve.
There are few things in this life for certain, and the same post maze progress for everyone is not one of them. I wish it was, and we all got a guarantee with the consent forms we signed prior to surgery.
I can understand your concern about AF returning at a later date. This is one of the things that I want this board to do is to try to let everyone know what lies ahead for the majority of us mazers. There will always be the exceptions, but as a majority, it really looks good for long term success, and the statistics from Dr. Cox, and other surgeons confirm this.
I am 4 years 2 months and 20 days post maze, and AF, and medication free. At the age of 68, I feel better than I had for the past 20 years pre-maze. I think God every day for the maze cure, and having my life back.
My resting heart rate 2 weeks after surgery was in the 110 range. My surgeon said I was anemic and my rate would come down as soon as my blood was built up. This happened as he said it would, but it was still higher than pre maze. I think the rate continues to return to normal as the heart continues to heal, and as we exercise the body, and the heart works harder, and regains more of its elasticity. As is sit here posting this, my heart rate is 60 BPM, which is as low as it normally was pre maze.
As a old Air Traffic Controller, I hope, pray, and think you will be ready to get that ticket back when the time comes. I worked the old St. Louis Center, (before it closed), and then the Atlanta Center, before I quit.
