I've made several posts over the last couple of years about exercise tolerance post maze. It was my experience, and that for Anders Kingstadt, that it took a couple of years to get full exercise capacity back. I used to feel very short of breath, with a sensation of pressure build up in my upper chest and neck that I could usually exercise through after a lengthy warm up, but still capacity was lower. I have since more than fully recovered and my overall competitive performance is much better now than it was in the last years pre- maze (now approaching 4 years ago).
My resting heart rate is still significantly higher than it was (when in sinus) pre - maze. Pre op, it varied between 30 and 35 bpm. Now it is 40-45 bpm, depending on my state of conditioning and level of fatigue. I have a lot of PC's, more than pre maze, never notice them except when I check my pulse, or occasionally when I lie down to sleep, also vary with rest. They are of no clinical siginficance.
Short answer, you shoud fully recover but it takes a while.
