My husband just underwent the Maze procedure after 5 years of debilitating Afib which was not responsive to any of the treatments. His surgery was October 10, 2000 and since he has had only two very mild short episodes of Afib. He has, however, developed a severe leak in his tricuspid valve, that was not there preop. Our cardiologist at home is puzzled why this happened. We were sent back to Houston this week thinking that he would have to undergo another open heart surgery to repair or replace the valve. They did not do the surgery but have informed us that at any time it could be necessary. Right now they have just put him on diuretics to control the symptoms but say that the leak will never get better. Just wondering if any of you out there have had any simular experiences.
