Thomas! Ed! (and others)
Thank you for your kind words. To start out with: I'm sure that you will improve your form in time Tom. I strongly believe it's matter of "hanging in there". The "inflexibility" I'm referring to was pointed out by my own doctor, Dr. Eskil Hammarstrom at the Stockholm Heart Center, at the last year's check-up. He performed an ultra-sound check on the heart. By measuring the various movements inside the heart (min and max values of the heart stroke etc.), he could see that the heart still, at that time, was not working in an optimal fashion due to the trauma caused by the Maze operation. This, in turn, can probably explain why the heart responds so slowly to an increased work load and - again - why you experience an unusual fatigue during the initial stages of any workout. For me, this was manifested especially strong while running up hill (which, to me, is kind of logical).
Why you can't seem to get your pulse up, Tom, I can't really explain. But I'm sure you will be able to, eventually. My age: I'm 42, feeling like 25 again! :-). If my bad left achilles tendon allows me to run intervals on the track with spikes these coming 2 months, I'm shooting for a participation in the Swedish track and field nationals for masters this year (held at the T&F arena less than a mile from where I live, outside of Stockholm). I'll keep you all posted on my progress!
Again - take care and hang in there!
Best regards,
Anders
