Question from Dale Finley: Dale just received a call from Southwest General hospital (which serves the southwest surburbs), and they said that Medicare was refusing to pay for his cardiac re-hap from having the Maze surgery. It was recommended by Dr. Lon Castle, his heart specialtist, and also by the Cleveland Clinic that he go to Southwest General as it was much more convenient then going down to the main campus at the Cleveland Clinic. The man also said that our secondary Medical mutual classic would not cover it either. We have never had a problem with our insurance coverage, and we were surprised. Dale is going to call Dr. Castle's office in the morning and Dr. McCarthy's office to see what we can do to get around this problem.. I don't know if this is because of the Maze surgery being so new, or what the story is. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what to do. Has anybody else had the same problem??? According to the man that called from Southwest, Medicare doesn't even cover re-hab when a person has valve surgery. I found that really hard to believe, but don't know the answer to this problem. Thanks for any help! Lee Finley for Dale Finley.
