Quick comment on the incidence of early post op atrial firbrillation. The incidence is quite high, reported somewhere betweeen 30-50%. Ed is correct, it almost always goes away as the atriotomy incisions heal. Concerning the issue of follow up. I have never been formally contacted, even though my surgery was done by Dr. Cox, who has published more on this, including follow up data, than anyone. This may be because he left Georgetown after having knee surgery shortly after he operated on me.
