Normal sinus rhythm has been present since the Maze. My heart rate remains at about 92 beats per minute.I take two blood pressure tablets and a baby aspirin daily, nothing more.
As I said previously, I took courses and tests and renewed my medical license since the maze, and was accepted for a part time job as associate professor of radiology. After two days on the job, I was placed on full time status. This is an exciting job and involves a lagre trauma center with a very active teaching program.
This new life would have been unthinkable before the Maze.
It seems to me, that post-Maze patients seem mostly to straighten out their rhythm by six months, with only a few going to one year before normal sinus rhythm.
Nothing is perfect, but the odds are stacked in favor of marked improvement in the quality of life, following the Maze operation.
