Hi, I am Lisa, Don's youngest daughter (in North Carolina) My mom and sister are pretty "inept" on the computer, so I told them that I would post an update!! :)

Dad had surgery yesterday morning and by late afternoon they had him up and walking! Then during the night they had him up again and today my dad walked all the way from the ICU to his new room where he will stay for the rest of the time. Mom also said that during the night, a nurse didn't realize that she had knocked out his catheter and so in the middle of the night, they had to get my dad up out of bed, change his sheets AND had him take a shower!!! Now I am amazed that he is able to do all that...especially in the middle of the night!

Anyway...mom also said that he is feeling a lot of pressure/pain on his chest and it is making it hard for him to breath...so they have started breathing treatments to prevent any lung infection. (I remember having to do this after having a C-section, so think it is kind of normal after surgery) But as for pain, he is off the morphine and only taking pain meds by pill.

One last thing, dad thought he was having fibraltions (sp?) today, but the Dr. looked at the readout from one of the machines attached to him and said NO this is not fib. but just normal things happening after the surgery.

So...all is sounding great as of today. I am going to print off your responses and fax them to my sister so that she can take them to the hospital for dad to read. Mom did mention that they had a phone message from John Daley but had not been able to reach him back. They are not sure they have the correct phone number.

I just want to say thank you to all who have been praying and encouraging my dad. If you all could meet him in person, you would see what an incredible man he is. He is the greatest dad and "Pa Pa" (grandfather) in the world! (I am NOT prejudice!? hee hee) Mom has said that his sense of humor has touched all the nurses and hospital staff. Even in pain, he is still making jokes!

I am praying that this surgery is 100% effective and he will be able to do everything he wants after his recovery...including keeping up with his 7 grandchildren!! (not all mine!!)
