I wanted to update everyone about my status. Dr. McCarthy will be doing my Maze surgery the morning of the 29th at the Cleveland Clinic. I did drive to Cleveland from Albuquerque and still plan to drive home. Yes, I did receive all the warnings from several of you from this board. I guess I've never been very good at taking advice. Because of late approval that I got from my insurance company, I didn't have airline reservations. A last min. ticket would have cost me upwards of $1,600 for two tickets. I may regret driving later and if so I'll let everyone on this board know.

I started my Cleveland Clinic appointments on the 25th with registration. I did my ECG while in NSR and therefore recorded a Normal ECG. My Echo was normal and my arteries were clean. No valve job, or CABG for me. Yesterday I met Dr McCarthy for the first time and spent about 30 min with him. It was about 3 PM and he had just finished a heart transplant and a Maze that same day. I wonder how many operations he can do in a single day! I did ask how long I would be on bypass and he said about 70 min. He said that he has done about 400 of the Maze operations. I told him that I was his patient because of this board and he had a short chuckle about that. I don't think that he has ever been to this site. My Wife Mary was in the room with me and we both noticed how much blood he had on his clothing. Yes, he is certainly a busy surgeon. While I was talking to him I noticed that he was looking at my chest. He said that he thought he would do a modified or small incision on my chest. I guess I'll find out when I wake.

I listed myself at www.thestatus.com.
Patient name is Hawkins and viewing password is guitar-hotel

My Wife Mary will post updates for me. She works as a critical care nurse in Albuquerque. It is comforting to know that I have my own nurse taking care of me.

Tim
