Thank you for reminding me, Carl. I had a computerproblem. Anyway, on this friday, february 15 I met Hans Koster while I was admitted in St. Anthony's in Nieuwegein. I am very gratefull for his visit and his stories about his own operation and how he recovered afterwards. It almost felt like a holiday because of this visit. St. Anthony's is specialised in heart and loung-diseases and dr Defauw does the classic Maze every week. He has even postponed his pension in order to train young cardiologists in this procedure. I was asked for permission to sample tissues from my heart for research, which I did.
A day after the operation on tuesday february 19 I allready was transferred from IC to the ward ( I hope this language comes out OK). My heart has beaten a steady 80 during restperiods in sinus ever since and no complications.
So a week after the operation my friend Martin drove me home. I felt really good, euphoric even because of the many visits and telephone calls. I can warn you about this, it can wear you out. I slept bad or not at all for two days and nights. Now six days later I am OK. I can cope with the sore chest. I walk the dog for a mile or two.
I'am really glad I did it and I want to thank St. Anthonius ziekenhuis, Dr Defauw,Dr. van Hemert and all nurses I saw for your professional care and skill.
And thank you on this forum for your prayers and kind replies. And I should not forget to thank my sister-in-law for taking care of my dog.Tom
P.S. Maybe I should tell you about how I developed A-fib and about MAZE-operations in Holland another time.
