One of the reasons you might think there are not a lot of maze procedures being done is that most people don't know of the various web sites. Since my first post maze appointment on 2-1-01, my EP has asked me to talk to 3 people scheduled for the CC, and told me of another couple who might be calling me. I know that he, alone has at least 5 people going to McCarthy in the last 2 months.
I know there were at least 7 mazes performed by McCarthy in the week between 1/11 and 1/18, (and probably more) but only 3 have posted on the Maze Alumni page (or any others I visit).
I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared, but the alternatives scared me more (mostly the alternative of going through the remainder of my life as captive of this insidious condition). Being AF-free is, to me, indescribable. My eyes well up daily when I remember how disabled I was just 2 months ago. Now my life has begun over again (albeit at age 60 in less than 2 weeks), but it is behind me and I am grateful that the Maze has become pretty commonplace. Remember, many 1000's have been done in Japan. Dr. McCarthy must be approaching 450-500 by now.
Set up a web site at thestatus.com and post your password so we can all keep up with your progress (assuming you have someone who can follow that site's simple instructions-my wife did!).

Good luck, Rob

Carl Plaskett
