Good morning Blair. I was only 64 when I had my maze, but I was very surprised about how good I felt the morning after surgery. It was much easier than I had expected.
I also know a lady who had a valve repaired and the Maze at 73 and she did very well. If your father is in average physical condition, I would not expect any problems due to his age.
The Amiodarone he is taking is a medication that has a very high rate of bad side effects. I would keep a close watch for some of the side effects to start. If you are not familiar with them, I would do a little research on that also. Here is a article you can look at if you like. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/amiodarone_ad.htm
Hope this all helps some, and keep us advised as how things work out.
