Blair,
I had the Maze 4 months ago at Cleveland Clinic. I will be 70 in April. I had the minimally-invasive operation whereby the lower half of the sternum is split. I was surprised at how painfree and easy the operation was. I was walking the hospital floor the next day. The only pain pill I got was Percocet which I took at night in order to sleep well. I did not take it during the day since I experienced almost no pain.

Your dad will be fine.
